Back in SCAD

One of my teachers did not show up for class
That's like, what, several hundred dollars down the drain?

The Simpsons Movie

It's everything I'd hope it would be and more.

The Simpsons movie is now the most successful animated movie based on an animated series, beating The Rugrats Movie, that came out almost a decade ago.

It's also currently ranked 7th place as the most successful 2D animated movie of all time.

Toon Review 1: Surf's Up

Welcome to the first my first Toon Review! Since I never had a job in the animation industry, it's probably not fair for me to critique. But I'm a huge fan of cartoons and animation! So now for the first review. Luckily I wrote this before on one of the forums I visit:

Anyhoo, I watched the movie on its opening weekend, and let me just say it's a really good movie. It's not great by any means, but it's just nice, mainly because it's different. Doing the film in the style of a documentary gave it a unique feel and kept it from feeling like another run-of-the-mill talking animal CGI movie. Also I have the strange feeling that the movie was meant to train people to animate realistic water, because it looked great!
Unfortunately this movie opened in 4th place, which is a shame because it looks much better than Open Season. I guess people are really sick and tired of penguins. And this movie looks a lot better than Happy Feet as well.

I rate this movie a B/B+

The other Dtoons

"Dtoons Productions, founded in 2000/2001, is dedicated to producing cartoons, both animated and print, for children, adults and everyone in between. Though at first a one-man studio, Dtoons relies on its associates for development on future projects."

Not to be confused with the Dtoons listed here.

Digimon Adventure: the orginal version

Don't knock it till you try it.
This is the original version of the the first part of Digimon: The Movie. If you never seen that, at least watch this one. I kinda like this version more. I think it's more artistic.
Plus, Maurice Ravel's Bolero is played throughout it.

Bolero

Besides Rhapsody in Blue, Maurice Ravel's Bolero is one of my favorite orchestrated pieces.
It can be heard in this video.

SCAD Cafe

Today I ate the most spiciest chicken nuggets in the world. I only ate one and my tongue was sore for 10 minutes. I went to tell them about this, you know just telling them that it's super spicy, and the manager showed up and he was really interested to hear what I had to say. He then told the lunch lady to give out ones with the barbecue sauce and ones that are plain. Then the manager shook my hand, took me to his office, and said if I have any more suggestions I should come to him.

I wasn't expecting to end it like that, but I'm kinda glad it did.

Lacking Passion

So far since I've been here in art college, I met these people in their majors:

an animator who doesn't know who Brad Bird or John Lasseter is,
a photographer who doesn't know the history of her major,
a sequential artist that doesn't practice drawing,
and an animator who rather be a director in a business sense above anything else.

Now I'm no proffesional, but I think if you don't know or care about the history, the knowhow, and the who's who about the field you want to major in, then get your ass out of this school! You're obviously not passionate about it, and you obviously shouldn't be here.

Idiots.

People Suck

The school took me to Wal-Mart and would've stranded me there for 21/2 if I didn't find a free ride on another bus.

The store forced me to use my PIN number (which I don't know by heart) instead of signing it to make purchases with my check card.

At the cafeteria, one person lets me take as many doggy bags as I like, while someone else will only let me take one.

And one of my teachers insist on unnecessary busybody work.

Plus other stuff.

I hate people because they're inconsistent, incompetent, unreliable, and rude.
Especially Americans.

The Simpsons Movie: (in 2-D!)

Watch.

For the first time last night, we saw the full Simpsons trailer, which shows how incredible it's going to look.
Whether the show has gotten better or worse over the years, is anyone's opinion. It doesn't matter, because EVERYONE is going to see this.
Plus, if you're sick of CGI animated movies, this could be the only one we'll see this year.

So on July 27, SEE THIS MOVIE.

Transportation

I asked my roommates to tell me in advance when they go to Wal-Mart so I can come with them (I don't own a car). They don't go to Wall-Mart, but they do go to Kroger and CVS Pharmacy several times, without telling me.
Lesson learned: When relying on others help, be more specific.

Apology

When I do something wrong, I usually don't do anything until the guilt consumes me.

I feel bad if I don't apologize.
But, I'll feel worse when they don't accept the apology.

Tuesday Afternoon

I got my report card in my Drawing class, and it looked like I got a C. I asked the teacher what was wrong with the artwork and he said it was "shitty". He said I didn't spend enough time on it.
I later found out that he gave me the wrong card (it belong to another kid named Alex, so I actually got a B).
Regardless, calling someone's art "shitty" just isn't nice. Especially since he confused my drawing with someone else's. I think the teacher hates me. I asked twice for his help but he usually spends 30 seconds helping me, while he goes on and works on someone else's, usually a girl's work, for over an hour, and he spends time chatting and discussing crap.
And my friend has now become the most popular kid in the class, and has formed a social ring where I'm the odd one out. I wouldn't mind this happening if it wasn't 3 inches away from me. Because of this, and the fact that he continuously reminds me of my lack of social grace, he's been reduced to acquaintence level.
I'm very picky when it comes to friendship.

Today, was better. I got an A for the first time since I've been here in 2-D Design. Also, I have perfect attendance!

Still, I can't wait till it's over. I'm getting a laptop!

I'm feelin' bloggish

I made a blog where I can bitch about life and post cartoon artwork.
